Weekly HUG #0042: You're invited to a FREE Artist Marketing Webinar ✨

Learn firsthand how to build your personal and professional brand from industry leaders

🤗 At HUG, we believe curation is the future of the creator economy. That's why we've curated the most important news and updates on what we're doing, building, and perfecting just for you!

Artists do it all. From managing finances, securing partnerships, coordinating community, and promoting their work— time for actually creating art can dwindle quickly. At HUG, we’re here to remind you that you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself, we can figure it out together.

Next week, we’re hosting a free Artist Marketing Webinar to help make things easier for you. We've invited some of our favorite independent creators to share their insights to empower others to grow and learn from their experiences

Free Mint: Safe Space

Safe Space by Vanora Vaz

Every month, Meta Angels partners with Adobe to commission a piece from an underrepresented, emerging artist. The recipient of February’s Artist-in-Residence scholarship was the mood-evoking, Vanora Vaz.

Vanora is an illustrator, musician, and former architect who raises mental health awareness through magical purple art. This month’s commission was created in collaboration with our community, inviting them to describe their ideal safe space to Vanora.

Holders of the HUG Pass and Meta Angels can claim her piece, Safe Space. Don't wait! This free mint closes on March 7.

Introducing our March Artist-in-Residence

It is with great pleasure that we introduce our March Meta Angels x Adobe Artist-in-Residence, WanjiGallery!

Wanjigallery is a self-taught photographer and digital artist. She is inspired by her life and environment in Kenya, with both African culture and mental health as prominent themes in her body of work. We look forward to sharing her unique perspective as a multi-hyphenate Kenyan artist working in the digital space through the coming month.

The Creator Royalties Debate
& Battle of the Marketplaces

Recently, the largest NFT marketplace OpenSea announced significant changes to their creator royalty and fee structure — the biggest change being that royalties would be optional for any collection without on-chain enforcement. Done in response to losing market share to relative newcomer Blur, this has widespread ramifications for all NFT creators and collectors globally.

Read more about the influence and impact creator royalties and sudden lack thereof have had on changing the lives of creative entrepreneurs in Web3 in our aptly named newsletter.

Power of Women kicks off partnership
with Manchester City Football

As part of football team Manchester City’s wider activities celebrating International Women’s Day 2023, they are releasing a collaborative digital art drop, created by Power Of Women, comprised of five pieces: I Am Powerful, I Am Proud, I Am Fearless, I Am Courage, I Am Resilient.

The collection of beautifully bold digital artworks celebrates the passion and diversity of women in football today, inspiring, and empowering future generations.

An alumni of HUG Studios, Power Of Women is an NFT movement of bold, diverse, empowering digital artworks by the award-winning illustrator, Leah Ibrahim Sams. Leah’s work celebrates empowered women from around the world through vibrant colors, striking compositions, and compelling messages. Her aim is not only to use art to define what it means to be a woman today, but to empower, inspire and enable future generations of women, girls, and non-binary people around the world.

HUGs, NOT RUGS:
Security Tips to Stay Safe

HUG has a number of committees dedicated to supporting our community through different sectors in Web3, and one of those is our Security Committee!

This week, our Security Committee Head and engineerShweta invited huggers to share and vote on their favorite tips and tricks on staying safe in Web3. Read our curated picks below to save yourself from social engineering and scams that seek to compromise your assets.

My favorite tip is literally never to be in a rush! Take your time on every transaction and read the wallet messages that you are signing.

Do not keep your seed phrase or passwords in a folder somewhere or digitally. Password managers are okay as long as they’re trusted, but keep your seed phrase locked away.

Have two browsers installed on your computer.

Only use one for Web3 stuff and make the non-Web3 browser your default. When you click on links you’r enot 100% about, make sure to open them on your non-Web3 browser so you don’t jeopardize your wallet.

Never do financial transactions of any sort over DMs. Just don’t do it. It is too easy for anyone to fake an account, fake a reference, fake a link, fake a website, and more.

What’s too good to be true is probably a scam.

I came across a free mint for Cool Cats the other day. The scammers copied their Twitter and everything. It was so convincing, but I knew it couldn’t be true as they did not announce it in advance… so I didn’t click. In 10-15 minutes, it was removed from Twitter, but some fell for it still.
